Sodium Phosphates Injection is a sterile, concentrated intravenous solution containing a combination of sodium phosphate, dibasic, anhydrous and sodium phosphate, monobasic, monohydrate. Developed by Hospira (now a Pfizer company) and approved under NDA 018892, it functions as an inorganic electrolyte replenisher. The drug is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of hypophosphatemia in patients with restricted or no oral intake, as well as an additive for preparing specific parenteral fluid formulas. By restoring inorganic phosphate levels, it facilitates the synthesis of essential high-energy phosphates such as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (DPG), which are vital for cellular energy metabolism and erythrocyte function.
