Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fosfosoda R (brand name: Casen-Fleet Fosfosoda) is an oral hyperosmotic laxative solution containing a combination of monobasic and dibasic sodium phosphate. Developed by Laboratorios Casen-Fleet, it is primarily used for bowel preparation (colorectal cleansing) prior to colonoscopy, gastrointestinal surgery, or radiological examinations. The solution works osmotically by drawing plasma water into the intestinal lumen, which increases intraluminal volume and pressure, thereby stimulating peristalsis and promoting bowel evacuation. It is typically administered in a low-volume (45 mL) regimen and has been shown in clinical trials to be generally comparable or superior in efficacy and patient acceptability to large-volume polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based regimens.
