OSPS + Colyte refers to a combination bowel cleansing regimen consisting of Oral Sodium Phosphate Solution (OSPS) and Colyte, a polyethylene glycol-electrolyte lavage solution (PEG-ELS). This regimen is primarily indicated for colonic cleansing prior to colonoscopy or other diagnostic procedures. It combines the saline laxative properties of sodium phosphate, which induces fluid secretion into the small intestine, with the osmotic activity of PEG 3350, which promotes bowel evacuation. The combination is designed to improve patient tolerability by reducing the total volume of PEG solution required compared to standard high-volume preparations. A fixed-dose combination product containing these ingredients was previously marketed under the brand name Suclear, which was approved by the FDA in 2013 but subsequently discontinued. The use of sodium phosphate-containing preparations is associated with a risk of acute phosphate nephropathy, particularly in patients with renal impairment or those taking certain medications.
