Overview

Fortepren is an antiviral and immunomodulating agent containing sodium polyprenyl phosphate, a substance derived from the phosphorylation of polyprenols extracted from fir needles (*Abies sibirica*). Developed by GamaVetFarm Ltd, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic recurrent genital herpesvirus infection (HRGVI) in adults. The drug exerts its effect by activating innate immune cells, including macrophages and dendritic cells, and stimulating the production of endogenous interferons and pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-15, IFN-γ, TNF-α, and IL-12. It is typically administered via intramuscular injection, often as a follow-up to acyclovir therapy to prolong remission and reduce relapse severity.
