Sodium pyrophosphate + stannous is a **diagnostic radiopharmaceutical kit** marketed as **TechneScan PYP**. It is a sterile lyophilized small-molecule kit containing sodium pyrophosphate and stannous chloride that is reconstituted with technetium Tc 99m sodium pertechnetate to generate a nuclear imaging agent. The radiolabeled pyrophosphate localizes by chemisorption to calcium-containing crystalline deposits, particularly in damaged myocardial tissue and sites of altered osteogenesis, enabling scintigraphic detection. Clinically, it has been used for skeletal imaging, adjunctive diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction, and—when used with Tc 99m for red blood cell labeling—for gated cardiac blood pool imaging and detection of gastrointestinal bleeding. The product has been developed and marketed by Mallinckrodt.
