Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Sodium pyruvate in 0.9% sodium chloride solution** is an investigational nebulized small-molecule antioxidant and anti-inflammatory formulation developed for inflammatory respiratory diseases. The formulation delivers sodium pyruvate in normal saline by inhalation; sodium pyruvate nonenzymatically detoxifies reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, including hydrogen peroxide and peroxynitrite, with the aim of limiting oxidative lung injury and downstream inflammatory signaling. It was evaluated in completed Phase 1 cystic fibrosis studies and a completed Phase 2 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease study. ([plaintrial.com](https://plaintrial.com/trial/NCT00308243))
