Sodium selenite pentahydrate is an inorganic selenium compound being developed by Seoul National University Hospital in collaboration with Boryung for the prevention and relief of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Marketed under the brand name Selentab, it is administered as a high-dose intravenous infusion (2000 µg) prior to chemotherapy. The drug's mechanism of action involves reducing systemic inflammatory responses and inhibiting reactive oxygen species (ROS) mechanisms that contribute to nerve damage. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase III randomized controlled trial for patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian, fallopian, or primary peritoneal cancer undergoing paclitaxel-carboplatin-bevacizumab chemotherapy.
