Overview
Salprep is a sulfate-based osmotic laxative solution indicated for bowel cleansing in preparation for colonoscopy. Developed by EA Pharma, it contains a combination of sodium sulfate anhydrous, magnesium sulfate hydrate, and potassium sulfate. The drug works by increasing the osmotic pressure within the intestinal tract, which inhibits the absorption of water and promotes the accumulation of fluid in the bowel lumen, resulting in a thorough purgative effect. This formulation is typically administered in a split-dose regimen to improve patient tolerability and ensure high-quality visualization of the colonic mucosa during endoscopic procedures. It was approved in Japan in 2021.
