Sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate is a water-soluble derivative of tanshinone IIA, the main active component extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen)[2][3][5]. It has been approved in China for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and angina pectoris[2][4][8]. The drug exhibits multiple pharmacological activities including anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic effects, and lipid-lowering properties[2][4].
