Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium trimetaphosphate (STMP) is an inorganic cyclic polyphosphate primarily utilized in oral healthcare for its potent anti-caries and remineralizing properties. In dental applications, STMP functions by adsorbing onto the hydroxyapatite surface of tooth enamel, where it acts as a protective barrier against acid-mediated demineralization and enhances the efficacy of fluoride by promoting the deposition of calcium and phosphate ions from saliva. Beyond dentistry, STMP is widely employed as a cross-linking agent in the development of biocompatible hydrogels and modified starch excipients for controlled-release drug delivery systems. Its ability to modify the surface charge and reactivity of biological substrates makes it a valuable component in both preventative medicine and pharmaceutical engineering.
