Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Softacort is a preservative-free ophthalmic formulation of 0.335% hydrocortisone sodium phosphate, a synthetic corticosteroid small molecule. Developed by Laboratoires Thea, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of mild non-infectious allergic or inflammatory conjunctival diseases. The drug functions as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, which leads to the inhibition of inflammatory mediators and a reduction in ocular surface inflammation. It has been specifically evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials for its efficacy and safety in managing the clinical signs and symptoms of dry eye disease when associated with moderate meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). The formulation is provided in single-dose containers to avoid the use of preservatives, which can be irritating to the ocular surface.
