Overview

Sogyeonghwalhyeol-tang (SGHH) is a traditional East Asian polyherbal formula composed of 17 medicinal herbs, widely used in Korean and Chinese medicine for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is primarily indicated for musculoskeletal conditions such as chronic low back pain, neuralgia, and arthritis. The formula is traditionally believed to improve blood circulation and expel 'wind-dampness' and 'blood stasis.' Modern pharmacological research suggests that SGHH exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators, including COX-2, TNF-alpha, and IL-6. Recent clinical and observational studies have also explored its potential in reducing cardiovascular disease risk in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
