Solagé

Solagé is a topical combination solution containing mequinol (2%) and tretinoin (0.01%). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of solar lentigines (age spots or liver spots) resulting from chronic sun exposure. Mequinol, a skin-lightening agent, acts as a substrate for the enzyme tyrosinase, leading to the formation of cytotoxic oxidation products within melanocytes and competitive inhibition of melanin synthesis. Tretinoin, a retinoid, enhances the depigmentation effect of mequinol by inhibiting glutathione S-transferase—an enzyme that normally protects cells from mequinol's cytotoxic effects—and by promoting epidermal cell turnover. The product is manufactured by Almirall and is intended for use as part of a comprehensive skin care and sun avoidance program.
