Overview

Solariba is an ophthalmic riboflavin (Vitamin B2) formulation developed by Alasht Pharmed as a UV-enhancer for corneal cross-linking (CXL) surgery. During the CXL procedure, Solariba is applied topically to the cornea, where it penetrates the stroma and acts as a photosensitizer. Upon exposure to controlled ultraviolet-A (UV-A) light, the riboflavin molecules generate reactive oxygen species (primarily singlet oxygen), which induce the formation of covalent cross-links between adjacent collagen fibrils. This biochemical reinforcement increases the mechanical strength and rigidity of the cornea, effectively halting the progression of corneal thinning and bulging associated with conditions such as keratoconus and post-LASIK ectasia.
