Overview

Solidago canadensis pollen is a non-standardized allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Canada goldenrod plant. Marketed by ALK-Abello, Inc. under the brand name Goldenrod, it is a biological product that has been available since 1965. [1] The product is administered via subcutaneous injection and serves two main purposes: it is used in diagnostic skin tests to confirm sensitivity to goldenrod pollen, and it is used as a hyposensitization therapy (immunotherapy) to treat patients with allergic reactions. The immunotherapy works by exposing the patient to controlled, increasing doses of the pollen allergens, which modulates the immune system to reduce allergic sensitivity over time. [5]
