Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Solocare Aqua is a multi-purpose disinfecting solution designed for the daily cleaning, rinsing, disinfection, and storage of all types of soft contact lenses, including silicone hydrogels. Originally developed by Ciba Vision (now part of Alcon), the formulation features the proprietary "HydroLock" system, which utilizes dexpanthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) and sorbitol to enhance moisture retention on the lens surface, thereby preventing dehydration and improving wearer comfort. Its primary antimicrobial action is mediated by polyhexanide (PHMB), a biguanide antiseptic that disrupts microbial cell membranes to provide broad-spectrum efficacy against bacteria and fungi. The solution is typically used in conjunction with a specialized antimicrobial lens case containing silver ions to further inhibit biofilm formation and contamination.
