Overview

Soloxine is a veterinary synthetic thyroid hormone replacement therapy containing levothyroxine sodium (T4). Manufactured by Virbac, it is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism in dogs. As a synthetic form of the naturally occurring thyroid hormone thyroxine, it acts as a substrate for physiologic deiodination to liothyronine (T3), the active form of the hormone. This process restores normal metabolic function and resolves clinical signs associated with thyroid deficiency, such as lethargy, weight gain, and skin issues. It is considered a standard-of-care treatment in canine medicine and is administered orally in tablet form.
