Overview
Solubilized sturgeon oil (SSO) is a specialized formulation of fish oil derived from sturgeons, processed through physical solubilization to enhance its therapeutic properties. It is being investigated primarily for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD). SSO demonstrates immunomodulatory effects by suppressing Th2-related cytokine production (IL-4, IL-5, IL-13) and IL-17A, while promoting the expression of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and the skin barrier protein filaggrin. Additionally, it reduces serum IgE levels and inhibits inflammatory markers such as COX-2. Research conducted at Chungbuk National University suggests its potential as a topical or systemic treatment for allergic skin inflammation.
