Soluble T beta receptor II (sTβRII) is a recombinant soluble decoy receptor that acts as a ligand trap to sequester transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) ligands, specifically TGF-β1 and TGF-β3. By binding to these circulating ligands, sTβRII prevents them from engaging with membrane-bound TGF-β type II receptors on target cells, thereby blocking downstream Smad-dependent and non-canonical signaling pathways. In preclinical models, sTβRII has been investigated for its potential to inhibit tumor growth, metastasis, and angiogenesis, as well as to reduce tissue fibrosis and extracellular matrix deposition in conditions such as diabetic nephropathy and cardiovascular disease.
