Overview

Somatorelin is a synthetic or recombinant form of the full-length human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), specifically the 1–44 amino acid amide form. It acts as an agonist at the GHRH receptor in the anterior pituitary gland to stimulate endogenous secretion of growth hormone (GH). This mechanism preserves physiological feedback control between GH and IGF-I levels. Somatorelin has been investigated for use in diagnosing growth hormone deficiency and studied for potential therapeutic benefits in conditions such as aging-related frailty, congestive heart failure, osteoporosis, and improvement of body composition and physical function in elderly populations. Recombinant human GHRH(1–44)-amide can be produced at scale using recombinant technology[1][4][5]. Clinical studies have shown that subcutaneous administration increases GH and IGF-I concentrations while reducing abdominal visceral fat mass and improving physical performance measures[5].
