somatropin + leuprorelin is a **combination therapy** involving two biopharmaceutical agents: **somatropin**, a recombinant human growth hormone (GH), and **leuprorelin**, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist. This regimen is used primarily in pediatric patients whose growth potential may be affected by puberty, such as children with idiopathic short stature, growth hormone deficiency, or certain conditions leading to short stature. The rationale is that leuprorelin delays pubertal progression and bone maturation, potentially extending the period of growth hormone efficacy and enabling a greater final adult height, while somatropin stimulates statural growth. Clinical studies indicate that combination therapy is capable of delaying puberty and bone maturation, but may also reduce the short-term GH-induced height gain during treatment; height catch-up may occur following leuprorelin discontinuation. Both agents are administered by injection, typically subcutaneous or intramuscular routes. The safety profile is consistent with the known adverse effects of each component, with additional risks from combination use, such as increased incidence of skeletal and nervous system adverse events.
