Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Somatropin + rosiglitazone is a combination therapy that has been studied for treating HIV-associated abdominal obesity and insulin resistance. Somatropin (recombinant human growth hormone) reduces visceral adipose tissue (VAT) but can worsen glucose homeostasis, while rosiglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, improves insulin sensitivity. When combined, rosiglitazone abrogates the adverse effects of somatropin on insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance while maintaining somatropin's beneficial effect on reducing visceral fat.
