SOMCL-668 is a **selective and potent allosteric modulator of the sigma-1 receptor** (Sig-1R), developed as a research compound for neurological and psychiatric disorders. It demonstrates positive allosteric modulation of Sig-1R, enhancing the effects of sigma-1 receptor agonists. Preclinical studies show that SOMCL-668 **ameliorates schizophrenia-related behaviors** (such as social deficits, cognitive impairment, and sensorimotor gating disruptions) induced by phencyclidine (PCP) in animal models. It also exhibits **antidepressant and anti-seizure properties** by raising seizure thresholds and reducing seizure severity in animal models. Its effects are dependent on the sigma-1 receptor, as confirmed by receptor antagonists and knockout mice. SOMCL-668 reverses the downregulation of signaling proteins (such as p-AKT and p-CREB) and BDNF in the cortex of PCP-treated mice, indicating its potential for neuroprotection and modulation of synaptic plasticity[1][3][5][6][7][9].
