Soneclosan is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the diphenylether class, with the chemical formula C12H8Cl2O2. It is primarily recognized as an antimicrobial agent, exhibiting broad-spectrum activity against bacteria and fungi. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of bacterial fatty acid synthesis by targeting enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (FabI), thereby disrupting cell membrane synthesis in susceptible microorganisms. Soneclosan has been used in personal care products, household disinfectants, and industrial applications for its preservative and biocidal properties. It is structurally related to triclosan and may be formed as a reductive dechlorination product of triclosan in environmental settings. There are no approved medical indications or marketed pharmaceutical formulations for human use; its primary uses are industrial and research-based[1][3][8].
