Overview

Sonedenoson is a small molecule drug that acts as a selective agonist of the adenosine A2A receptor. It was originally developed by New York University and later licensed to Medco Research (King Pharmaceuticals), which was subsequently acquired by Pfizer. Sonedenoson was investigated primarily as a topical treatment for diabetic foot ulcers, with its mechanism of action involving activation of the adenosine A2A receptor, leading to anti-inflammatory and tissue repair effects. The drug reached phase II clinical trials for chronic diabetic neuropathic foot ulcers but development has since been discontinued[1][3][4][7].
