Overview

Sonidegib is a small molecule antineoplastic agent classified as a hedgehog pathway inhibitor. It acts by binding to and inhibiting the transmembrane protein Smoothened (SMO), a key component in the Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway, which is implicated in the growth of certain cancers. By blocking SMO, sonidegib prevents Hh pathway activation, thereby inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and survival. Sonidegib is primarily indicated for adults with locally advanced basal cell carcinoma (BCC) that has recurred following surgery or radiation therapy, or for those who are not candidates for these treatments[1][2][5][7]. The drug was developed by Novartis and is marketed under the brand name Odomzo.
