SOOPR

SOOPR (Synthetic Opioid Overdose Prevention and Reversal) is a novel rescue therapy being developed by Elysium Therapeutics to address the limitations of current short-acting opioid antagonists in the context of synthetic opioid overdoses. It utilizes a proprietary naloxone prodrug delivered via a long-acting injection (LAI) technology. As a mu-opioid receptor antagonist, SOOPR is designed to provide a rapid onset of action followed by an extended duration of 18-24 hours of opioid blockade. This extended-release profile specifically targets the clinical challenge of re-narcotization (fentanyl rebound), where the long half-life of synthetic opioids like fentanyl outlasts the effects of standard naloxone, leading to secondary respiratory depression and potential death after initial rescue.
