Overview

Sophoridine is a naturally occurring quinolizidine alkaloid primarily extracted from plants of the genus Sophora. It exhibits a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, notably anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, analgesic, neuroprotective, and cardiovascular-protective effects. Mechanistically, sophoridine acts on multiple molecular pathways, including inhibition of the PI3K/Akt, NF-κB, VEGFR2, TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB, RAS/MEK/ERK, PTEN, and MAPK pathways, among others. It is approved in China for the treatment of several cancers, such as gastric, lung, and liver cancers. Sophoridine is primarily administered by injection in clinical settings, enabling rapid systemic exposure and precise dosing. It has also demonstrated various activities in vitro and in vivo, including the modulation of cytokines and reduction of inflammatory markers, as well as the regulation of cell survival and apoptosis pathways[1][3][4].
