Overview

SoRI-9409 is a naltrexone-derived non-peptide small molecule that acts as a mixed mu opioid receptor (MOR) partial agonist and delta opioid receptor (DOR) antagonist. Developed at the Southern Research Institute, it has been primarily investigated in preclinical research for its potential as a non-addicting analgesic with limited tolerance development. The compound's unique pharmacological profile allows it to produce antinociceptive effects while attenuating morphine physical dependence and selectively reducing ethanol consumption in animal models. Its high affinity for delta opioid receptors and its dual action on mu and delta receptors make it a candidate for treating both chronic pain and substance use disorders, including alcohol use disorder.
