Overview

Sotrovimab is a recombinant human monoclonal antibody that targets the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. It is designed to block viral entry into healthy cells by binding to an epitope on the spike protein that is conserved among coronaviruses, thereby neutralizing the virus and facilitating clearance of infected cells. Sotrovimab was developed for early treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in patients at high risk for progression to severe disease. It was originally authorized under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in several countries but has not received full regulatory approval and its EUA has been revoked in some regions due to reduced efficacy against emerging variants[1][2][3][5][8].
