Drug intelligence / Profile preview
South America anti-snake antivenom is a polyvalent antivenom developed by Inosan Biopharma for the treatment of snake envenomation in South America. It is composed of equine-derived F(ab')2 immunoglobulin fragments, which are produced by the pepsin digestion of IgG from horses immunized with a mixture of snake venoms. This process removes the Fc portion of the antibody to minimize the risk of serum sickness and other adverse reactions. The antivenom works by binding to and neutralizing various toxins found in the venom of South American snakes, such as those from the *Bothrops* and *Crotalus* genera. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
