Overview

Souvenaid is a medical food designed to support synapse formation and function in individuals with early Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). It contains a specific multinutrient combination called Fortasyn Connect, which includes uridine monophosphate, choline, phospholipids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and various vitamins (B6, B12, C, E, and folic acid) and selenium. These components serve as precursors and cofactors for the synthesis of neuronal membranes via the Kennedy pathway. By addressing the early synaptic loss characteristic of AD, Souvenaid aims to maintain or improve cognitive function. It is typically administered as a once-daily 125-mL oral drink and has been evaluated in several clinical trials, including the SOUVENAID, NL-ENIGMA, and LipiDiDiet studies.
