sovaprevir

Sovaprevir is an oral, once-daily, small molecule inhibitor developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It is a linear peptidomimetic that non-covalently binds to and inhibits the HCV NS3/4A protease with high potency and specificity, thereby blocking viral replication. Sovaprevir was originally developed by Achillion Pharmaceuticals and reached phase II clinical trials in combination regimens for HCV genotype 1 infection. The drug demonstrated significant reductions in viral load during short-term monotherapy and showed promising results when combined with other antivirals such as pegylated interferon, ribavirin, or the NS5A inhibitor ACH-3102. Despite initial promise and fast track status from the FDA in 2012, development was discontinued following phase II studies[1][4][5].
