Overview

Soya protein is a high-quality, complete plant-based dietary protein derived from soybeans. It contains all nine essential amino acids in sufficient quantities, making it comparable to animal proteins in nutritional value[2][5][8]. Soya protein is available in several forms, including isolates and concentrates, and is commonly used as a food ingredient or supplement for muscle building, weight management, and as a meat or dairy alternative for vegetarians and vegans[2][5][7]. It also contains isoflavone phytoestrogens that can exert mild estrogen-like effects in the body by binding to estrogen receptors; these may help regulate hormone balance and have been studied for potential benefits in reducing risks of heart disease, osteoporosis, certain cancers (such as breast cancer), menopausal symptoms (like hot flashes), cholesterol levels, blood pressure control, metabolic syndrome management, kidney disease support (by reducing urinary proteins), muscle strength improvement comparable to animal-derived proteins like whey or beef[1][3][4]. Soya protein has additional uses as an emulsifier and texturizer in processed foods. Adverse effects are rare but may include allergic reactions such as skin sensitization or asthma[3].
