Soybean extract is a botanical product derived from the seeds of the soybean plant (*Glycine max*). It contains a variety of bioactive compounds, including isoflavones such as genistein and daidzein, as well as proteins, saponins, and peptides. In therapeutic research, particularly oncology, biotransformed soybean extract (BSE)—often produced through fermentation by fungi like *Aspergillus awamori*—has demonstrated enhanced antiproliferative and proapoptotic properties compared to non-biotransformed versions. BSE has been shown to inhibit the growth of melanoma cells by activating the extrinsic apoptotic pathway, characterized by the induction of PARP cleavage, activation of caspases-3, -7, and -8, and the upregulation of TRAIL and its receptor DR4. Additionally, it may modulate NFκB signaling to facilitate cell death. Beyond oncology, soybean extracts are widely studied for their effects on menopausal symptoms, bone health, and lipid metabolism.
