soybean phytosterol

Soybean phytosterol is a botanical extract derived from soybeans, primarily consisting of a mixture of plant sterols such as beta-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol. It is being developed as a pharmaceutical product, notably under the brand name Pureixiao, for the treatment of chronic nonbacterial prostatitis (NIH category III). The therapeutic effect is attributed to its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, thereby reducing the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and alleviating symptoms of prostatic congestion and inflammation. Clinical evaluation in China has focused on its efficacy in improving voiding symptoms and reducing pelvic pain in men with chronic prostatitis.
