Soybean water extract is an aqueous preparation derived from the seeds of the soybean plant (Glycine max or Glycine soja). It is typically produced by extracting whole soybeans or defatted soy flour with water, resulting in a solution rich in water-soluble proteins, carbohydrates, minerals (ash), and bioactive compounds such as isoflavones (notably genistein and daidzein) and saponins[4][6]. The primary active constituents—soy isoflavones—are phytoestrogens that can exert weak estrogenic or anti-estrogenic effects by interacting with estrogen receptors. These compounds are metabolized in the gut to more active forms like equol. Soybean extracts have been studied for their potential benefits in cardiovascular health, menopausal symptom relief, cancer prevention (especially prostate cancer), antioxidant activity, and as dietary supplements[1][2][3][7]. The mechanism of action primarily involves modulation of hormone receptors and antioxidant pathways. Soybean extracts may interact with various drugs due to effects on cytochrome P450 enzymes and other pharmacodynamic interactions[1][7].
