SoyFerm

SoyFerm is a specialized fermented soy extract developed by Frutarom (now a part of IFF Health) designed to provide high concentrations of bioavailable soy isoflavones. The production process involves a proprietary fermentation step that enzymatically converts isoflavone glycosides (such as genistin and daidzin) into their aglycone forms (genistein and daidzein). These aglycones are more lipophilic and are absorbed more efficiently in the gastrointestinal tract compared to their glycoside precursors. SoyFerm is primarily indicated for the alleviation of menopausal symptoms, such as vasomotor instability (hot flashes), and for the prevention of postmenopausal bone loss. Its therapeutic effect is mediated through its action as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM); the constituent isoflavones bind with high affinity to estrogen receptor beta (ER-beta), which is prevalent in the bone and central nervous system, while exhibiting lower affinity and partial antagonistic activity at estrogen receptor alpha (ER-alpha), thereby potentially reducing the risk of estrogenic stimulation in breast and uterine tissues.
