Overview

SP-002-HHPI is a topical small molecule Hedgehog pathway inhibitor (HPI) being developed by Stamford Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). The drug utilizes the company's proprietary SP-500 delivery platform, which is designed to enhance the local penetration of the active ingredient into skin lesions while minimizing systemic absorption. By antagonizing the Smoothened (SMO) receptor, SP-002-HHPI inhibits the aberrant Hedgehog signaling pathway that drives the growth of BCC cells. This topical approach aims to provide a non-surgical treatment option with a significantly improved safety profile compared to oral HPIs, which are often associated with systemic toxicities such as muscle cramps, hair loss, and taste disturbances.
