SP-6-27 is a novel small-molecule chromene analog that functions as a microtubule destabilizer. Developed through medicinal chemistry efforts at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, it is being investigated as a potential chemotherapeutic agent for ovarian cancer. The compound acts by inhibiting tubulin polymerization, which disrupts microtubule dynamics and induces apoptosis in cancer cells. SP-6-27 has demonstrated potent in vitro activity against both cisplatin-sensitive and cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cell lines, including A2780, SKOV-3, and OVCAR-3, while exhibiting minimal cytotoxicity toward normal ovarian epithelial cells.
