Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SP-8008 is a novel small molecule antiplatelet agent under development by Shinpoong Pharmaceutical. It is a hydroxybenzoic acid derivative designed to selectively inhibit shear stress-induced platelet aggregation (SIPA) by modulating the interaction between von Willebrand factor (vWF) and platelet glycoprotein Ib (GP Ib). This mechanism targets pathological thrombus formation without affecting normal hemostasis, aiming to reduce bleeding risk compared to conventional antithrombotic drugs. Preclinical studies demonstrated that SP-8008 effectively blocks SIPA and exerts significant antithrombotic effects in vivo without prolonging bleeding time or causing significant toxicity. The drug has completed Phase 1 clinical trials in healthy male subjects, assessing safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics[1][3][4][5][6].
