Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SP-8257 is a small molecule drug candidate developed by Shin Poong Pharmaceutical, currently in preclinical development for the treatment of atherosclerosis and the prevention of associated cardiovascular events such as stroke. The compound is designed to inhibit the progression of atherosclerotic plaques by targeting vascular inflammation and vascular calcification. By mitigating the osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells and reducing plaque instability, SP-8257 aims to address the underlying vascular pathology that leads to ischemic stroke and other chronic cardiovascular conditions. It represents a strategic expansion of Shin Poong's cardiovascular pipeline, which also includes the acute stroke candidate otaplimastat (SP-8203).
