SP-SC4 is a potent and selective macrocyclic peptide antagonist of the C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4), developed by Spexis AG. The drug is primarily being developed for the treatment of Alport Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder characterized by progressive kidney disease, hearing loss, and eye abnormalities. CXCR4 signaling is known to play a critical role in the recruitment of inflammatory cells and the activation of fibrotic pathways in the kidney. By inhibiting CXCR4, SP-SC4 aims to mitigate renal inflammation and fibrosis, thereby preserving kidney function and delaying the progression to end-stage renal disease. The molecule was identified using Spexis's proprietary macrocycle platform, which enables the creation of stable, highly specific peptide-based drugs with improved pharmacological properties compared to linear peptides.
