Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SP0087 is an investigational, next-generation inactivated rabies vaccine developed by Sanofi. Produced using Vero cell culture technology, it is designed to provide active immunization against the rabies virus for both pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies that target the rabies virus, preventing its entry into the central nervous system. Currently in Phase 3 development, SP0087 represents an evolution of Sanofi's established Vero cell-based vaccine platform, aiming for high purity, safety, and consistent potency in global rabies prevention efforts. The use of Vero cell technology allows for a standardized, large-scale production process that avoids the safety concerns associated with older nerve-tissue-derived vaccines.
