SP0202 (also known as GBP410) is an investigational 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) jointly developed by Sanofi and SK bioscience. It is designed to provide broad protection against 21 different serotypes of *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, the bacterium responsible for invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), pneumonia, and acute otitis media. The vaccine utilizes a conjugation technology that attaches the capsular polysaccharides of the targeted serotypes to a carrier protein (typically CRM197), which enhances immunogenicity by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response. This platform is particularly effective in infants and toddlers, whose immune systems do not respond well to pure polysaccharide vaccines. SP0202 demonstrated positive Phase II results in 2023, showing comparable safety and immunogenicity to existing standards of care, and entered Phase III clinical trials in 2024.
