SP0202 (Sanofi)

SP0202 (also known as GBP410) is an investigational 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) being developed by Sanofi Pasteur in collaboration with SK bioscience. It is designed to provide broad protection against invasive pneumococcal disease caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae* by incorporating capsular polysaccharides from 21 distinct serotypes. Each polysaccharide is individually conjugated to a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin carrier protein (CRM197), which enhances the immune response by stimulating T-cell dependent immunity, a critical factor for efficacy in infants and the elderly. SP0202 aims to expand serotype coverage beyond currently available vaccines like Prevnar 13 and Vaxneuvance, potentially addressing a significant portion of the remaining global disease burden. The vaccine is currently in Phase 3 clinical development following positive safety and immunogenicity results in Phase 2 trials.
