SP1.13 is a bacteriophage-based therapeutic candidate being developed by SASPiPhi for the treatment of endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus aureus. It utilizes the proprietary SASPject platform, which employs engineered bacteriophages to deliver Small Acid-Soluble Spore Proteins (SASPs) to target bacterial cells. Once inside the pathogen, the SASPs bind to the bacterial DNA in a sequence-independent manner, effectively silencing the genome and preventing replication and transcription. This mechanism of action is designed to be effective against both antibiotic-sensitive and antibiotic-resistant strains, such as MRSA. SP1.13 is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
