SP1.5 is an antibacterial therapeutic candidate being developed by SASPiPhi for the treatment of bloodstream infections caused by *Staphylococcus aureus*. The drug utilizes the proprietary SASPject platform, which employs engineered bacteriophages as delivery vectors to transport a gene encoding a Small Acid-Soluble Spore Protein (SASP) directly into target bacterial cells. Once the gene is delivered, the bacteria produce SASP, which binds non-specifically and tightly to the bacterial DNA. This binding effectively 'locks' the DNA, preventing replication and transcription, which leads to rapid bacterial cell death. This mechanism of action is independent of traditional antibiotic resistance pathways, making it potentially effective against multi-drug resistant strains such as MRSA.
