Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SP5M002 is a novel intra-articular viscosupplement developed by Shin Poong Pharmaceutical for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. It is composed of hyaluronate cross-linked with hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), a modification designed to enhance the stability and viscoelastic properties of the gel compared to conventional cross-linking agents like 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE). By supplementing the synovial fluid, SP5M002 provides mechanical lubrication and shock absorption within the joint, thereby reducing pain and improving mobility in patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis. It is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials as a long-acting treatment option.
