SPARC1028 is an investigational nanoparticle formulation of docetaxel developed by Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company Limited (SPARC). As a taxane-based chemotherapy, it functions by binding to the beta-subunit of tubulin, which stabilizes microtubules and inhibits their depolymerization. This action leads to cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and subsequent apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. The nanoparticle delivery system is designed to improve the solubility and pharmacokinetic profile of docetaxel without the need for conventional surfactants like polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), which are associated with severe hypersensitivity reactions. By eliminating these toxic excipients, SPARC1028 aims to enhance the safety profile and potentially increase the intratumoral concentration of the drug. It was primarily evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for the treatment of advanced solid tumors.
